PURPOSE STATEMENT

The purpose of the organization shall be to increase awareness of ethical issues in healthcare and understand how to navigate issues in bioethics and medical ethics through debates, seminars, or discussions. The organization will prepare students to understand the medical basis for decisions, teach students how to identify values explicitly or implicitly promoted by opposing sides in a decision-making scenario, and promote communication strategies to mitigate problems in the "gray areas.” The organization will create interdisciplinary team building within healthcare professions and beyond as well as prepare students to communicate medical issues effectively through writing, editing, and publishing content. The organization will create an environment for discourse and critical thinking for ethical issues in medicine and provide resources for attending conferences and seminars that promote a better understanding of bioethics. Furthermore, the organization will connect students with opportunities for philanthropy and community engagement.
